DHAKA, Jan 21, 2021 (BSS) – Sharply criticising BNP’s comments over vaccine issue, Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said Indian gift of twenty lakh vaccines have reached the country and BNP is making comments like mad.
“The vaccine of COVID-19 has reached and the Indian government gave those as gift. For this, I would like to give thanks to the Indian government. But, BNP’s statement expressed their mentality that not being able to see any good of a disliked neighbour and always wishing for bad,” he said.
The minister told the reporters after exchanging views with the representatives of Bangladesh Sampadak Forum at the meeting room of his ministry at Secretariat in the capital.

A poacher was arrested yesterday with a tiger skin from Rayenda Bazar of Sharankhola in Bagerhat.
The arrestee Gaus Fakir (45) was held during a joint operation by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and forest guards, said Mohammad Belayet Hossain, divisional forest officer (DFO) of the Sundarbans East Forest Department.
The arrestee was taken to Bagerhat East Sundarbans Forest Department office from Rab-8 office in Barishal around noon today and a case was filed against him for killing a tiger.

A team of Rab and forest guards has arrested a poacher and recovered a tiger skin from his possession in Bagerhat s Sharankhola upazila.
The arrestee is Gaus Fakir, 45, of Dakkhin Southkhali of the upazila. Previously, he used to earn his living by catching fish in various rivers and canals in the Sundarbans area.
Mohammad Belayet Hossain, divisional forest officer (DFO) of the forest department (East Sundarbans), said, We had information that Gaus was trying to a sell the skin of a tiger. In the guise of a potential buyer, we contacted him and bargained over the price for three to four days … At one point of the bargaining, he decided to sell it for Tk 13 lakh.
No alternative to efficiency in power sector: Nasrul

DHAKA, Jan 12, 2021 (BSS) – State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid today said there is no alternative to increasing efficiency in power sector.
“It is necessary to implement steps, taken by the ministry, for modernisation of the transmission and distribution system aimed at increasing customer service,” he told a programme virtually.
The programme was held marking the submission of the probe report by the investigation committee formed earlier over 132/33Kv grid sub-station, Kumargaon, Sylhet, fire incident that took on November 17, 2020.
Nasrul Hamid said cyber security and physical security instructions are needed to ensure safety of each grid or power plant.
Tiger scare grips Sharankhola villagers

Fear has gripped the residents of a number of villages at Dakkhin Razapur in Shorankhola upazila of Bagerhat district as the footprints of a tiger was found in their locality.
Locals said the presence of tigers in the locality is rare but sometimes they enter the villages in search of food.
They spotted the footprints over a three-kilometre area of the upazila and brought it to the notice of the local Village Tiger Response Team.
However, the forest officials have taken necessary cautionary steps after the detection of the footprints.
According to the forest officials, the tiger entered the locality after crossing the Bhola River from the Sundarbans and was seen passing Bharani camp under The Forest Department some time on Saturday.
