County Durham: New £34m school campus moves a step closer

Rt Revd Paul Butler, the Bishop of Durham, said: “I am delighted to hear the news that Cabinet has approved a new building for one of our primary schools HEADTEACHERS and the Bishop of Durham have welcomed an important step forward in plans to create a multimillion-pound campus for two North-East schools. Durham County Council’s Cabinet backed a £34 million investment in new buildings and a joint campus for Belmont Community School and Belmont Church of England Primary School. Since 2014, the condition of these schools has been a cause of growing concern to the council, local councillors, school leaders and governors.

For The Times Leader BELMONT Village council on Thursday voted to accept the donation of a police cruiser from St. Clairsville and approved making the expenditures needed to put it into service. Police Chief Andrew Miller, who had been working with the St. Clairsville Police Department on acquiring the 2010 Crown Victoria cruiser that was recently taken out of service there, said that he believed the only thing wrong with the vehicle was the battery, but that if council accepted the vehicle he would take it to Doan Ford and have it checked out to make sure. Miller went on to say the only thing it would need for sure besides the battery would be new decals appropriate to its new home.

Hundreds show support for family of Hanry Tapia at a vigil in Belmont

Wicked Local Henry Tapia of Boston, who was struck and killed by a vehicle last week in what is being called a hate crime, was remembered in a vigil by Community Organized for Solidarity on Jan. 21. Hundreds gathered on Common Street in Cushing Square between Trapelo and Payson Roads holding Black Lives Matter signs and photos of Tapia, who was 35 when he was struck by a car operated by 54-year-old Dean Kapsalis of Hudson at around 4:22 p.m. on Jan. 19 on Upland Road in Belmont. Tapia was conscious when emergency workers first arrived, but he later died at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
