Drama Unfolds At Ampenkro-Asatroa M/A Primary School

  Drama unfolded at Ampenkro-Asatroa, a farming community in the Jaman South Municipality of the Bono Region, when a contractor stormed and locked-up a newly-constructed classroom block of the local Municipal Assembly (M/A) Primary School. The unpleasant incident which happened during school hours left pupils and teachers of the school in a state of disbelief and anxiety. The Ghana News Agency (GNA) gathered the contractor, Mr Henry Yaw Afful who is also the Jaman South Constituency First Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) alleged the government had not paid him since the project was completed. But, the timely intervention of Mr Joe Danquah, the Chief Executive Officer of Middle Belt Development Authority (MBDA) who visited the area saved the situation.

Contractors threaten to lock up schools if

The Chairman of the local contractors, James Gyan said on Monday, January 18, 2021, they will lock up the school facilities built with the sweat of our toil, for which some of our member s lives have been cut short. He stated that the group will hit all the regional capitals with earth-shaking demonstrations to let the world know the pain they pass true as caretakers. Gyan revealed that some of the projects they undertook were Construction of 10 and 16 seater toilet facilities, Market Stores, Durbar grounds, Police Post, 3 and 6unit Classroom blocks, construction of green grass pitches, boreholes, etc. all under $1 Million Per Constituency Projects.

+ The Middle Belt Development Authority has denied the assertion that the $1m per constituency is just into the construction of toilet facilities as against the other pressing developmental projects expected to be done. Rather, the Authority is of the view that there is nothing wrong with helping to improve sanitation challenges in most communities. Mr. Arimeyaw Alhassan Alolo, the Eastern Regional Director of the Authority in an interview with the media as part of mass distribution of face masks and hand sanitizers in Koforidua, Nkurakan, and other major communities to help curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. Responding to the assertion, Mr. Alolo emphasised that the Authority, since starting operations over 3 years ago has undertaken numerous projects across the country.
