BELTON, TX â Thereâs nothing quite like the sound of a hard-copy book cracking as you open its cover, or the smell of the decades-old pages filled with adventures and story lines.
But as Jordan Petter, a librarian at Lake Belton High School, will tell you, somewhere along the line, students tend to lose the love of literature.
âThatâs their line, I hate reading, â she said. âWell, you just haven t found the right book yet. You haven t found the right author. You havenât found the right book. You haven t found the right genre.
There s something so satisfying about seeing someone you know was born to do something find just the right place in which to do it and absolutely thrive. That looks to be the case with Marylisa Fanning, a Belton ISD nurse who s being promoted to the head of the district s Health Services Department.
Fanning is currently the school nurse at Belton High School, and has served in the role at Southwest Elementary School as well. The Belton ISD Board of Trustees recently approved hiring her for the position of Director of Health Services for the entire district.
“I was born to be a nurse and I can’t imagine doing anything else,” said Fanning after receiving the news.
Belton ISD Employees Will Be Paid Days Missed Due to Winter Storm
Belton ISD is trying their best to take care of employees who missed work through no fault of their own last week.
In a board of trustees meeting held on Monday, the board voted to pay employees for the five days of closure brought on by the winter weather.
According to KXXV, the board also voted to submit two waivers, each of which could benefit employees and students.
The first is a missed school waiver where the district would not have to make up the missed instruction time that was brought on by the winter weather if passed.

Both Temple and Belton ISD announced Monday afternoon that they will suspend online learning Tuesday and Wednesday due to the extreme winter weather and blackout conditions.
Both districts are taking the Texas Education Agency up on a waiver offered for those days. According to the TEA, and school district experiencing widespread power outages due to the weather is eligible to cancel classes without being required to schedule make-up days.
Both districts had planned for the first few days of the week to be virtual learning days, but obviously that will be an impossibility for many students whose homes are experiencing power outages.
