The Newport Public Education Foundation is pleased to announce its Newport Bridge tower tour raffle. Enter to win a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to stand atop this Rhode Island icon, all while supporting the foundation’s mission to provide educational enrichment in Newport’s public schools.
Purchase your raffle tickets by June 19 for the chance to win an escorted visit to the top of the Newport Bridge, 400 feet above sea level. The winner and a guest will enjoy unparalleled views all the way to Martha’s Vineyard during this unforgettable experience.
Raffle tickets are $20 each or three for $50. Only 500 tickets will be sold, and all proceeds benefit the Newport Public Education Foundation, which empowers teachers, administrators and community partners to provide enriching educational experiences for the students of Newport’s public schools.

The Newport Performing Arts Center (NPAC) is offering a Newport String Project performance of the children s classic The Story of Ferdinand the Bull free for schools, educators and community organizations. It s very important to connect children to the arts and music of all kinds, said Marlena Horan, a member of the NPAC board of directors who cultivates family programming for the nonprofit organization. This recent performance combines storytelling with classical music. Ealain McMullin, co-founder, and director of Newport String Project, narrates the timeless story of a gentle bull who would rather sit under a tree and smell flowers than be in the ring. Jesse Holstein masterfully accompanies on violin.
In 2007, the Rhode Island Department of Education s Jacobs Recommendations for Consideration report concluded that the state s schools faced a tidal wave of need. Science labs were woefully outdated, roofs leaked, pipes burst, and, at one Newport high school, mice dropped from the ceiling.
