The Last Kingdom has released images from its upcoming fifth season, which has been confirmed as the showâs last.

The historical drama stars Alexander Dreymon as fierce warrior Uhtred of Bebbanburg during the treacherous early years of England, inspired by the novels from author Bernard Cornwell.
When season five was announced last summer, it was not initially described as The Last Kingdomâs final outing, but producers have now confirmed that the next episodes will draw the series to a close.
The season will consist of 10 episodes in total, which will be based upon Cornwellâs ninth and tenth books â Warriors of the Storm and The Flame Bearer â meaning the final three novels in the series will go unadapted.
The Last Kingdom has begun production for its fifth season, which will now be the final one. The final season of Netflix’s series will reportedly adapt the ninth and tenth books in Bernard Cornwell’s 13- part Saxon Stories series.

The historical series about a warrior in the ninth-century England is based on Bernard Cornwell s The Saxon Stories novels, and it was first available on the BBC before it moved to Netflix years ago.
