No5 A MENTAL health charity which supports young people in Reading has seen its referrals almost triple during the pandemic. No5 Young People focuses on providing free counselling and mental health support to young people aged 11-25 years who live, work, or study in the RG postcode. Carly Newman, the charity’s operations and relationships manager, said the demand for the service has increased by 193 per cent when looking at referrals made between September and December 2019 and the same period in 2020. Between September and December 2019, the charity had 96 referrals and in 2020 this had increased to 282. Carly said there is “massive health anxiety” with young people who are anxious about being carriers of Covid-19 and spreading the virus to their loved ones.
