Thistle & Mirth Owners Opening Burger Joint in Downtown Pittsfield

PITTSFIELD, Mass. Flat burgers are coming to downtown Pittsfield. Co-owners of Thistle and Mirth Joad Bowman and Austin Oliver are embarking on a new endeavor in the former Flavors of Malaysia at 75 North St. Flat Burger Society, a burger joint and future performance venue, will focus on flat, stackable burgers made from beef that is processed in-house. It will also serve hand-cut fries, milkshakes, a small selection of salads and soups, and have a full bar.   Between Joad and I, we have 30 years of experience in this business, Oliver said. And our primary goal is, we don t take ourselves too seriously, and we are here to make sure everyone has a good time.  All the bits and pieces, we re gonna make as good as possible, and at the end of the day we want people to just be having a good time.

Dulye Leadership Experience Participants Clean Up Pittsfield Downtown

  This is the group s second consecutive year cleaning up the area and is the first time in a year that members have been able to gather in person. This is just the beginning of in-person events that the organization looks forward to in postpandemic times.   The charitable professionals who beautified North Street from Park Square to Columbus Avenue included Marcus Coleman of Raymond James & Associates, Kalee Carmel of CompuWorks, Michael Laureyns of Laureyns United, Melanie Rowe of Raytheon, Krystle Blake of General Dynamics Mission Systems, Michelle Lopez of the Berkshire Immigrant Center, Allison Loring of Willow Investments, and President and founder of Dulye & Co. Her background and perspective are ideal for providing strategic direction for LitNet s future growth, said Merle Duskin Kailas, President of the LitNet Board.     Dus currently works as a Senior Case Worker at Berkshire Immigrant Center (BIC). A native of Venezuela, Dus joined BIC in September of 2017 after moving to the United States from Ireland.    She has a degree in Political Science and a master s degree in Human Rights, and has worked with non-profit organizations from a very young age helping indigenous people, refugees, displaced people, and children at risk. She has traveled doing humanitarian aid after the earthquakes in El Salvador (2001), Peru (2007) and Haiti (2010) and has volunteered with the UNHCR, One Young World, the Irish Red Cross, and Oxfam International.
