District Collector S. Sambasiva Rao has brought in more restrictions in Olavanna, Velom, Peruvayal, Chemanchery, Kadalundy, Mavoor, Panangad, Ulliyeri, Kakkodi, Perumanna, Perambra, and Madavoor grama panchayats and Feroke Muncipality which reported a daily test positivity rate (TPR) of over 30% for COVID-19 infections.
Mukkom Muncipality and Chengottukavu grama panchayat are declared as local self-government institutions in a critical condition.
Mr. Rao said in an order that public gatherings have been banned in local bodies with a TPR of over 30%. People should venture out only for essential needs. 10 local bodies with test positivity rate over 30% declared ‘Critical LSGIs’ Kozhikode on Tuesday recorded its highest single-day spike in COVID-19 cases when 5,015 people tested positive for SARS-CoV-2. The number was also the highest recorded among the districts in the State on the day.
The daily test positivity rate (TPR) stood at 26.66%. Among the new patients are two who returned from foreign countries and seven from other States. The source is unknown in 186 cases while 4,820 got infected through local transmission. As many as 19,663 samples were tested on Tuesday. While 1,567 patients have recovered, 8,419 persons have been placed under observation.
Private hospitals asked to improve facilities to treat COVID-19 patients
With the addition of 3,251 fresh COVID-19 cases on Monday, the total number of patients undergoing treatment for the viral infection in Kozhikode district rose to 31,477. Of this, 3,179 persons contracted the virus through local transmission.
Among the newly confirmed cases, there were non-resident Indians who recently returned home. The infection was also confirmed in five others who came to the district from other States. The test positivity rate, according to the latest Health Department report, was 26.69%.
The highest number of cases with no clarity on the exact source of infection was reported from Chakkittappara, Feroke and Nadapuram areas. Altogether, there were 27 such cases from these areas. At the same time, the highest number of 895 local transmission cases was reported from the Kozhikode corporation areas.

Daily test positivity rate (TPR) for COVID-19 in Kozhikode remained high at 22.26% in Kozhikode district on Thursday and fresh cases surged to 3,372. As many as 1,298 people recovered from the infection and the active caseload from the district now is 20,250.
According to the District Medical Officer, 15,653 samples were tested. There were 3,256 cases of local transmission of the infection, and the source of 97 others is not known. Eighteen others had returned from other States. Kozhikode Corporation accounted for 885 locally acquired infections, Olavanna 140, Feroke 116, Vadakara 105, and Koyilandy 73 cases.
