Zubiri’s statement released today follows:
“Senate Bill 2042 is not going to give LGUs (local government units) precedence over the national government in terms of vaccine procurement. National government pa rin ang masusunod (National government will still be followed) LGUs still need to follow the national guidelines for vaccine deployment set by the Department of Health (DOH) and the National Task Force against COVID-19,” said Zubiri, principal author of SB 2042.
“So no one should fear inequitable distribution. Whether through the national government or the LGUs, our frontliners will still be prioritized for vaccination. The vaccines purchased by LGUs will augment the supply of the national government. LGUS who will not be able to purchase vaccines on their own will still be covered by the national government vaccine roll out.

Senate approves bill dividing 2nd district of Rizal
The Senate with a vote of 23 affirmative, zero negative, and zero abstention, approved on Monday, 1 February 2021, on third and final reading, the bill reapportioning the second district of Rizal into three legislative districts.
House Bill No. 6222 aims to retain part of the second district of Rizal, composed of the Municipalities of Cardona, Baras, Tanay, Morong, Jalajala, Pililla, and Teresa, and establish the Municipality of San Mateo as the third congressional district; and the municipality of Rodriguez as the fourth legislative district of the province.

Francis Tol Tolentino, chairman of the Committee on Local Government and sponsor of the bill, said that with this measure, it is hoped that the proper representation will help the local government units involved to better respond to the needs of the people and also help facilitate in the long-term rehabilitation and the capacity building efforts of the
Senate approves bill allotting safe pathways for pedestrians, cyclists, non-motorized transport users
The Senate today approved on third and final reading a bill that seeks to provide a network of safe pathways for those who prefer to walk, bike, or use other non-motorized vehicles to their regular destinations.
Senate Bill No. 1582, otherwise known as the Safe Pathways Act, was approved with 23 affirmative votes, no negative vote, and no abstention.
The bill was primarily introduced and sponsored by Sen. Pia Cayetano, chairperson of the Sustainable Development Goals, Innovation, and Futures Thinking.

Senate adopts resolution expressing condolences to the family of former Sen. Ziga
The Senate adopted a resolution expressing its profound sympathy and sincere condolences to the family of former Sen. Victor Ziga who passed away last January 31, 2021 at the age of 75.
Senate Resolution No. (SRN) 630, introduced by Senate President Vicente C. Sotto III and Majority Leader Juan Miguel Migz F. Zubiri, was adopted during the hybrid plenary session Monday, February 1, 2021. We will miss him but his memory and his legacy will always remain in the halls of the Philippine Senate, said Sotto.
