Domestic abuse support is still available during latest coronavirus lockdown Date published: 09 January 2021 Emergency funding has been allocated to local charities which support victims of domestic abuse Support is still available for those affected by domestic abuse, and those at risk of harm can still leave their homes under the latest coronavirus lockdown rules. Last month, emergency funding was allocated to Greater Manchester charities which support victims and survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence to adapt their services while the pandemic continues. A total of £571,196 was allocated to 26 organisations by the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), which will enable them to adapt services and improve digital capabilities for remote working.

Rochdale madrassah, Lantern Academy, has won the British Beacon Mosque Award for Best Madrassah 2020. Based on Lower Sheriff Street, the academy is a supplementary school which teaches over 300 students from across the borough of Rochdale from primary to GCSE level in Quran recitation, Islamic studies, Math, English and much more. Lantern Academy is a branch of the Golden Mosque, Rochdale which was founded in 1963 and was the first mosque in Rochdale. The academy was named the Best Madrassah 2020 in an online ceremony on Saturday (5 December) by the British Beacon Mosque Awards, founded by Faith Associates UK. It is the first time Lantern Academy has entered the awards, which celebrate the work of Islamic institutions in 10 different categories.
