LONDON MARKET EARLY CALL: Higher call after equities in New York rally
Tue, 25th May 2021 06:59
(Alliance News) - Stocks in London are set to open extend gains on Tuesday, bolstered by a strong performance in New York overnight.
IG says futures indicate the FTSE 100 index of large-caps to open up 16.81 points, or 0.2%, at 7,068.40 on Tuesday. The FTSE 100 closed 33.54 points, or 0.5%, higher at 7,051.59 on Monday.
The higher open in London follows gains on Wall Street. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 0.5% on Monday, the S&P 500 up 1.0% and the Nasdaq Composite up 1.4%. Equities were mostly higher in a very uneventful Monday session, and after finishing mostly lower last week. Growth was back in style, extending last week s outperformance. Small caps beat large caps and cyclicals outperformed defensives, commented Danske Bank, noting that China was leading gains in Asia overnight.
