Kinney won the first weekly award of her career, while Andrews was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the fourth time in eight weeks this season. Nebraska’s opponent this weekend – the Iowa Hawkeyes – was also recognized as Allison Doocy was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week and Brylee Klosterman shared Freshman-of-the-Week accolades with Andrews. Kinney is the first Husker freshman to be named conference player of the week since
Taylor Edwards was the Big 12 Player of the Week once during the 2011 season. A native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Kinney contributed offensively and in the circle during Nebraska’s four-game sweep of Maryland. Offensively, she reached base in seven of her eight trips to the plate in the series, finishing 4-for-5 with three home runs, four runs scored and six RBIs. Kinney also started the third game of the series in the circle and allowed only one run in 5.0 innings.

Carmen’s Crew the Ohio State alumni team that’s participated in the annual TBT Tournament every year since 2017 had the opportunity last summer to become just the second team ever to win back-to-back titles. With a roster that included the likes of Aaron Craft, William Buford, Jon Diebler, and David Lighty, the squad of (mostly) former Buckeyes were one of the favorites to win the $1 Million, winner-take-all tournament in 2020 after beating the Golden Eagles (Marquette alumni) in 2019.
Instead of repeating, they did the exact opposite, bowing out in the first round to 16-seed House of ‘Paign (Illinois alumni plus Mike Daum), 76-68. Now, seeding in TBT is not the same as seeding in the NCAA Tournament. Seeding is determined based on prior performance as well as the tournament’s perception of the overall roster. WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Ohio State (18-14) started off its four-game series at Purdue (10-23) on Friday night in the best way possible: with a total team effort on offense, defense and in the circle that added up to a 5-1 victory at Bittinger Stadium in West Lafayette.
The Short Story
Senior Payton Buresch pitched a complete-game three-hitter to secure her eighth win of the season. All the run support she would need could come in one swing of the bat, in the form of a three-run bases-clearing double by Ashley Prange in the second inning. The rest of the way, Buresch was backed up by her defense as she allowed just two hits over her final six innings of work.
