The Pierre Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to an oven fire at Big Tom’s Diner at approximately 5:15pm yesterday (Dec. 22).
Chief Ian Paul says when firefighters arrived, the fire was contained inside the oven. He says thankfully the oven door was left closed to contain the fire before firefighters arrived.
Paul says there was very little damage as a result of the fire. Big Tom’s Diner reopened for business later yesterday evening.

The chimes of Exeter’s Trivitt Memorial Church have been ringing out since December 1890. They have sounded out to mark the both the joyous and tragic occasions of the town’s life. For the past 130 years, the Trivitt chimes have been one of Exeter’s treasured traditions.
The Trivitt Memorial Church was constructed in 1888 with funds donated entirely by Thomas and Elizabeth Trivitt. Built in the Gothic style with arched doors and windows, with a magnificent stained glass rose window measuring nearly 20 feet high – and complete with gargoyles carved in relief on the outside wall – the church was dedicated to the Trivitt family and doors.

It was a case of ‘fair play’ for a Russian classical pianist and mezzo soprano who left Moscow to live on a beef farm in Kilbeggan, Co. Westmeath, going on to make a name for herself on the Irish country music scene, recently winning an international award.
Larissa Tormey was selected for the accolade as she released her new album ‘Breath of Fresh Air’. The 14-track collection includes ‘Why Don’t You Love Me?’ which won the award for the ‘most amazing female/male voice for a folk/Americana cover’ at the Fair Play country music magazine’s red carpet awards show.
One commentator said: “Haven’t we suffered enough this year?”
Another wrote: “Thanks for the warning.”
A third joked: “I always wondered what the final straw for Irish twitter would be.”
Meanwhile, Ireland’s Queen of Country Philomena Begley was last night inducted into the Irish Country Music Hall of Fame after being surprised with the honour on the Late Late.
The award was presented to Philomena by country legend Sandy Kelly who pointed out that Philo is the first woman to be presented with the Hall of Fame. She joins Big Tom and Daniel O’Donnell, who were previous recipients.
