We know, we know. MORE footage of the biggest swell to hit Jaws in a decade? Sorry not sorry, because “Super Swell Saturday” deserves more recognition than we could ever give it. When all the best big wave surfers who’ve surfed all the best swells at all the best big wave spots on earth all collectively agree that it was a day for the history books… well, who are we to disagree?
Eli Olson was one of the people who said it was the biggest in ten years, and honestly, after watching the footage he dropped on his YouTube channel, we don’t know if we’ve ever seen Jaws like this. Nathan Florence, Billy Kemper, Kai Lenny, Landon McNamara, Kealii Mamala, and Makua Rothman all joined in on the… fun? Is it fun?

Mark Healey spends an inordinate amount of time chasing big waves. He’s logged more time surfing waves of serious consequence than almost anyone else. Remember THAT Puerto wave? Or THAT Pipeline wave? Yeah, he’s logged time on huge waves. He’s calculated about his surfing, though as one must be to last in his business so when the swell that would eventually turn into one of the biggest and best weekends Hawaii has ever seen popped up on the horizon, Healey didn’t just throw himself headlong into it. He’s spent his life preparing for moments like these, and that’s why he’s able to score harder than pretty much anyone else on earth.

Nathan Florence spends as much time as he can surfing the biggest waves he can find. When a giant swell shows up on his doorstep, chances are very good that he’s going to be there, and he’s going to be there with a huge grin on his face. He’s been through a lot of Jaws swells, but the one that hit on the weekend in mid-January was something else. Nate, in fact, called it “the biggest Jaws swell of our lives.” Which is saying a lot. An awful lot.
