Four weeks ago, I published an update on the individual and team ratings accumulated by our band of merry men and women at Following Football.
With Round 9 just getting underway, it’s time to take another look at where things stand after eight rounds.
As I’ve said before, we use 23 sources of voting and evaluations of AFL players each week: several teams of the week, Brownlow-style voting, best-on-grounds, fantasy scoring, statistical leaders and AFLCA voting.

I’ve decided that it’s too risky to make predictions only about the margin of victory for a particular team, possibly the most veiled of all outcomes to forecast.
So in the interest of increasing my odds of success for each game, I will also be presenting ‘safe predictions’ for the games as well.
Mind you, the forecasts we’ve been making have been fairly safe already. With seven more correct last weekend we’ve now picked 47 winners out of 72 for the year, and the ELO-Following Football rating system is a more impressive 51 of 72 on its own after I made some rather unsafe overrides of the system early in the season.

RUSSELL Russell High Schoolâs Varsity Dance Team won the 2021 National Dance Alliance National Championship for the Small Varsity Pom Division in April.
They also earned third in the nation in Medium Gameday and fourth in the nation in Medium Hip Hop.
Coached by Lauren Gibbs Burgess and assistant Rachel Francis Ferguson of TJS dance studio in Greenup, the team competed virtually because of COVID-19 restrictions, which was a blessing and a curse, Gibbs said. It seemed like, in the beginning, it was going to be better because you can retape it and do it until itâs perfect, Burgess said. The problem is, itâs never perfect enough. The girls get tired and itâs stressful. We retaped many times. I hope we never have to do it again, but it worked out for the best.

There are no clear standout candidates at the Crows so Tom Doedee gets the nod.
The intercept defender position has become increasingly important in recent times and Doedee is building his craft nicely in the role.
