PERRY TWP. – Work should get rolling by early summer to resurface sections of more than a dozen streets for the township s 2021 road repaving program.
John Masalko, supervisor of the Perry Road Department, said parts of 15 neighborhood roads located on Perry s northwest side are slated for improvements. The northwest sector is specifically being targeted this year to help save a few bucks. We re concentrating on the one area, Masalko said. Jumping all over the township gets us charged a mobilization fee. But all these roads (on the list) are bad.
Estimated cost for the 2021 proposed resurfacing project is approximately $430,000, according to Masalko, who expects the public bidding process for construction to be finalized in May.

Plans to build 242 apartments and a 146-bed hotel in Rochdale town centre were approved by Rochdale Council s planning and licencing committee yesterday (8 April).
The detailed application includes proposals for a seven-storey hotel which has been confirmed will be a Hampton by Hilton hotel. Part of the world-famous Hilton brand, the franchise operates 2,660 properties in 31 countries and territories around the globe.
The site will also feature two nine-storey blocks of one and two-bedroom apartments. The new homes would offer ‘city centre’ style living at ‘affordable rents’.

Hotspots are said to include The Walk, Baillie Street and various high street banks.
The problem is understood to have become so serious a number of businesses are considering moving elsewhere.
Some have linked it to the Broadfield Park Hotel, which was used as emergency accommodation for those at risk of homelessness during the pandemic.
However, the Local Democracy Reporting Service understands the building has not been used for this purpose since December and is currently empty.

Councillors have called for a crackdown on a ‘criminal element’ allegedly behind an increase in street begging and anti-social behaviour in Rochdale town centre.
Hotspots are said to include The Walk, Baillie Street and various high street banks.
The issue was raised at a Rochdale Council cabinet meeting during a discussion about renewing the town centre Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) from July.
PSPOs allow councils to ban – or put conditions on – certain activities ‘to ensure that the law-abiding majority can use and enjoy public spaces, safe from anti-social behaviour’.
