Wright and Cotter Left Out of 21-Man Senior Squad

The EFL has published its clubs’ squads for the second half of the season following the January transfer window, confirming that the Blues have left Harry Wright and Barry Cotter out of a senior list of 21 rather than 22 players.
Due to the salary cap, which it was recently announced will be scrapped from the end of the season, clubs were permitted to name only 22 players aged over 21 on New Year’s Day 2020 in a senior squad.
That squad was limited to a wage bill of £2.5 million but with contracts signed prior to the introduction of the cap treated at a lower level, as if they are worth £113,000 per annum.

Blues manager Paul Lambert believes players will in for a rude awakening this summer when the impact of the League One salary cap begins to have a greater effect on wages.
The cap was introduced last August meaning clubs in the third tier are limited to a wage bill of £2.5 million for their senior players, those aged over 21.
This season their squad of senior players has been limited to 22 but from next year it will be down to 20.
Contracts signed prior to the introduction of the cap will continue to be treated at a lower level, as they have been this season, as if they worth £113,000 per annum, although at a higher figure of £125,000 in 2021/22.
Brown, Clements and Wright Back With Blues

Blues duo Kai Brown and Bailey Clements have returned to Portman Road following their half-season loan spells in the Vanarama National League with Dagenham & Redbridge, while Harry Wright is also back at the club after his stint with GAIS in Sweden.
Forward Brown, 19, made three league starts for the Daggers without scoring, while left-back Clements (pictured), also 19, was unable to break into the league side but played once in the FA Trophy.
Manager Daryl McMahon told his club’s official site: “I’d like to thank them for their professionalism, they were terrific around the football club and for the team.
