Building on their VC Diversity Pledge, Base10 Partners announces today that it has raised a new $250M fund with the mission of aligning the success of technology companies with wealth creation for underrepresented minorities. The Fund, known as the Advancement Initiative, is investing in leading pre-IPO startups and donating 50% of the fund's carried interest, directly to Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs) to create student scholarships and support university endowments.

Academic twitter lit up with acclaim when Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis announced that it had approved “new promotion and tenure options based on diversity, equity and inclusion work” earlier this month. A computer-science professor captured the prevailing sentiment: “Such amazing news! I hope more and more institutions will take this path.”
We can be certain that they will. Unfortunately, not only will this path fall short of its intended goals, but it will pose a serious threat to academic freedom.

ANDOVER – Ronald Adams, 85, of Andover passed away peacefully on Saturday May 22, 2021, at home surrounded by the presence and love of his family.
Ron was born in Quincy, Mass., on June 29, 1935. At 17 he joined the Navy and was a U.S. Navy Seaman First Class, he had to cut his Navy career short to care for his mother and two younger brothers while his older brother went to Korea. He began working for Boston Edison Power Company at 18 as a station cleaner. During his career there he attended school at Peterson School of Steam Engineering, Northeastern University and Wisconsin State University and became a First-Class Engineer. He continued education through Rutgers and Bentley University for management development.
