CORNWALL, Ontario – During a media tour of the Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU)’s COVID-19 vaccination clinic at the Benson Centre on Tuesday, May 18 Dr. Paul Roumeliotis, EOHU’s Medical Officer of Health, said he was optimistic that the region would reach herd immunity by the end of the summer, pointing to successes with reaching seniors. Dr. Roumeliotis explained that among residents aged 70 and older in the region, 100 per cent have at least received their first dose of the vaccine.

Friday afternoon’s official provincial announcement confirmed 27 regions transitioning into the province’s colour-coded reopening framework on Tuesday.
It includes ending the stay-at-home order and allowing for a partial reopening of non-essential businesses, but for government facilities, there won’t necessarily be a flood of Tuesday morning openings.

Todd Lihou, SDG corporate communications co-ordinator, told the Standard-Freeholder late Friday afternoon that library services hours and services will remain the same next week, with a continuation curbside pickup service available at all 15 branches.
