When Mike Ortiz arrived at the Texas Capitol shortly after noon on Wednesday, a cardboard mask resting atop his head like a flat-brim baseball cap, the attention of the protesters at the “Occupy the Capitol for Trump” rally was torn. About three hundred demonstrators were there, a much smaller crowd than the one simultaneously gathering in Washington, D.C., outside the U.S. Capitol. Just outside the south gate of the Texas Capitol, a man with a megaphone repeated a sort of daily affirmation for those intent on overturning the results of the presidential election: “Remember, whatever happens today, Donald Trump is still our president.” Nearby, a goateed man in a khaki jacket banged on an empty WindFresh detergent tub and accosted those few wearing face coverings with a “maskism is Naziism” chant. Oakland A’s fans almost got treated to a no-hitter on Friday, as
Sean Manaea carried one into the 8th inning against the Tampa Bay Rays. Unfortunately it was broken up by
Mike Brosseau, Manaea’s former high school teammate.
Meanwhile, elsewhere in the majors that same night, another lefty starter was making a similar bid and managed to finish it off.
Wade Miley threw a no-hitter for the Cincinnati Reds, in a 3-0 victory over the Cleveland Indians.
Miley issued just one walk, and in the same inning a batter reached on an error, but both runners were stranded. Every other frame was perfect, with eight strikeouts overall. He needed 114 pitches to complete the gem. Click here for the box score.

The Angels announced a series of roster moves in advance of Wednesday evening’s game against the Rays. Star third baseman Anthony Rendon is headed back to the 10-day injured list with a left knee contusion. Reliever Mike Mayers has been reinstated from the COVID IL, while fellow right-hander Ben Rowen was designated for assignment. Outfielders Juan Lagares and Taylor Ward have been recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake, while righty James Hoyt was optioned.
This will be Rendon’s second trip to the IL this season. The 30-year-old missed about two weeks in April due to a left groin strain. After returning for seven games, Rendon is knocked out of action again, this time by a balky knee. On the plus side, the team says an MRI revealed no issues, via Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times, so it seems there’s reason to hope Rendon can return in relatively

The Los Angeles Angels placed third baseman Anthony Rendon on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a left knee contusion.
It was a part of a series of moves by the Angels, who also optioned right-hander James Hoyt to Triple-A Salt Lake and designated right-hander Ben Rowen for assignment. To fill roster voids, the Angels reinstated right-hander Mike Mayers (undisclosed) from the IL and recalled outfielders Juan Lagares and Taylor Ward from Salt Lake.
Rendon was placed on the IL for the second time this season after also missing time with a hamstring injury. In his second season with the Angels, Rendon is batting .276 with three home runs and 11 RBIs in 15 games.
