This missing kangaroo story has a hoppy ending.
An elusive marsupial was captured in Yates County and reacquainted with its owner Sunday afternoon, 24 hours after it was reported missing.
The young, 2-foot-tall female kangaroo was found scared, cold and hungry but she didn t appear to be injured, according to the Yates County Sheriff s Office.
Finger Lakes Film Co. posted video of the rescue.
Several volunteers surrounded the joey in an abandoned brush-covered vineyard east of County House Woods Road in the town of Jerusalem. The Good Samaritans closed in on the kangaroo with blankets and Deputy Sheriff Scott Walker pouched the little roo by covering it with a blanket and holding its legs. Joeys need to be a pouch at all times to keep warm and develop until at least eight months old.
