Richard Akpokavie, Defeated Candidate in GOC elections
Richard Akpokavie, defeated candidate of the just ended Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) elections has urged the new administration to prioritize the well-being of athletes in its decision-making.
The erstwhile General Secretary of the GOC was not successful in his Presidential election bid as he lost to incumbent Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah in a keenly contested race.
Not only did Mr. Akpokavie lose the Presidency but no member of his Dream team was able to win in their respective contests.
Speaking to the media shortly after his loss, the former President of Ghana Hockey Association (GHA) said for Ghana to reclaim its position as a top sporting African nation needs to give more attention to athletes.
Mensah to oversee African Games preparations after GOC Presidential re-election Monday, 15 March 2021
Ben Nunoo Mensah has been re-elected President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and will now oversee the country s preparations for the 2023 African Games.
Mensah was sworn in today for a second four-year term as President in Accra at the GOC s Elective Congress.
He defeated challenger Richard Akpokavie, who was reportedly leading an 18-member team consisting of 17 men and one woman challenging for positions within the GOC.
Mensah, who has held the position since 2017, will now be the GOC President during the African Games, leading the event s organisation.
Keita scores late in Asante Kotoko win over King Faisal

Striker Naby Keita scored a last gasp winner as Kotoko left it late to beat King Faisal 1-0 in an outstanding match day 15 League fixture.
The Guinean import climbed off the bench to snatch the match-winner for the Porcupine Warriors at the Ohene Ameyaw park in Techiman.
Keita replaced Patrick Asmah in the 69th minute and got on the score sheet with six minutes left on the clock.
The attacker latched onto a pass inside the box and dribbled a King Faisal defender before planting a low left-footed shot into the far post.
