The health department said itâs vaccinating some people who signed up for alerts on the cityâs website, but the department is also working with churches and housing programs to make sure theyâre reaching a diverse group of people 65 and older.

Gaston Empty Stocking Fund tops $81,000 in 2020 campaign
The Gaston Gazette and the Salvation Army, has come to a close.
The effort raised $81,490 to provide toys for children, food for families, and gifts for seniors during the holiday season.
The money was used to aid more than 1,000 children, 400 families, and 80 seniors through its Angel Tree programs and other efforts.
Final contributions to the program include:
Anonymous, $100, in memory of Frankie and Dale.
Myra Beam, $25, in loving memory of my husband, John Adrian Beam.
Watson Insurance Employees, $1,175.
Grace Stroupe and Ben Jordan, $50, in memory of our Grandaddy, David Stephen Jones, by his grandchildren.
Benjamin Ray “Ben” Jordan, 22, of Olive Hill, passed away Monday afternoon, January 11, 2021.
He was born June 2, 1998, in Boyd County, a son of Kevin Ray and Stephanie Rayburn Jordan of Olive Hill.
Ben graduated from West Carter High School and was a student at the University of Kentucky. He was a member of Flat Fork Church of God. He enjoyed fishing and playing baseball and basketball. Ben loved spending time with his family, especially with his K-9 companion, Brutus.
In addition to his parents, Ben is survived by three sisters, Abigail Jordan, Kara Beth Jordan, and Jenna Jordan, all of Olive Hill; his paternal grandmother, Nola Gay Jordan of Olive Hill; his maternal grandparents, Dwight and Patricia Rayburn of Olive Hill; his maternal great-grandmother, Alta Rayburn of Olive Hill; and his special friend, Matilee Custer. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
