Thoughtfully director Wendy Beauchamp uttered the immortal words, Open Sesame and on to the stage stepped Scheherazade - confidently played by both Ruby Bradbury and Alice Monteith - who declared Have I a tale for you .

Never mind a return to 2019, the footy on show at Marvel Stadium on Thursday night resembled something out of the early 1990s. As fans at long last had their chance to watch men’s footy in Victoria after a 12-month wait, they were treated to a freewheeling affair in which the ball pinged around swiftly under the roof. It was a sight for sore and desperate eyes.
But the one thing clubs ultimately want from games in the first week of March is for everyone to get through. And alas for Carlton and St Kilda, neither could say that come 10pm.

After what felt like an eternity of an offseason (which doesn’t make sense given it was actually shorter), the AFL is back in just two short weeks.

There seems little mainstream appetite for the story of a humble, hard-working and honest man, and certainly not for a self-proclaimed “realist”. Realism is irrelevant in an age when Jake Paul is calling out Canelo Alvarez and Mike Tyson does bigger numbers than Tyson Fury. But for me, a meeting with Gary Lockett offers a timely antidote to the madness.
