Cyclists in New York City were recently overjoyed to hear that both the Brooklyn and Queensboro bridges will be getting dedicated, two-way bike lanes. Now, cycling advocates in the Bay Area are pushing for a similar goal a bike lane crossing the entire 4.5 miles of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. The path can be built for less than two days worth of BART’s annual budget and will take only two to three months to build with available funding, reads a new petition launched by the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy. The cycling and pedestrian advocacy group believe the project could could take just one year and $10 million to complete, KCBS reported.
