NEW YORK Jacob deGrom will be placed on the injured list by the New York Mets with tightness in his right side, a move that will keep the ace from taking the mound until May 20 at the earliest.
The Mets said an MRI on Sunday night was “clean of any issues.” The team said it will place deGrom on the injured list before Tuesday’s series opener against Baltimore, a move that will be retroactive to Monday.

PITTSBURGH (AP) Tyler Naquin homered and drove in four runs, Tucker Barnhart keyed a six-run fourth inning with a two-run double and the Cincinnati Reds rolled to a 14-1 victory over the skidding Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday night.
Naquin’s three-run shot bounced off the right-field foul pole and made it 11-1 in the seventh. He also doubled home a run in the fourth.
“It’s been a lot of fun to be able to come over here and do my thing,” Naquin said.
The outfielder has been an unexpected bright spot for the Reds after being signed to a minor league contract in the offseason. A first-round draft pick of the Cleveland Indians, he’s hitting .278 with eight homers in 28 games.
Greg Brown recaps the big loss.
The Pirates yesterday designated Todd Frazier for assignment in order to make room on the roster for outfielder Ben Gamel, who was claimed off waivers from Cleveland on Sunday, Gamel was activated for last night’s game, appeared as a pinch hitter and played first base. He was 0-for-2.
Manager Derek Shelton said the Bucs will have Gregory Polanco back with the club “within the next few days”, but the team still has not said why Polanco was put on the 10-day injured lost last week. ); } return false; }); $( #comments .commentlist .comment-content a ).attr( target , blank );
