The Benin Electricity Distribution Company Plc (BEDC) has installed over 25 per cent of the 90,870 meters targeted for electricity consumers under the first phase of the National Mass Metering Programme (NNMP) to be completed within three months.
The company disclosed this in a communiqué issued after a Town Hall meeting tagged: Facilitating Metering And Combating Electricity Theft In BEDC States, organised by the Stakeholders Democracy Network (SDN) in Benin City, Edo State.
It disclosed that BEDC planned to eliminate estimated billing for unmetered customers in Delta, Edo, Ekiti and Ondo within six months as part of the NNMP.

The Benin Electricity Distribution Company Plc says it has installed more than 25 per cent of the 90,870 meters targeted for customers under the first phase of the National Mass Metering Programme.
It said in a communiqué issued at the end of a Town Hall meeting titled ‘Facilitating metering and combating electricity theft in BEDC states’ organised recently by the Stakeholders Democracy Network for critical stakeholders in the electricity sector in Benin City, Edo State.
The communiqué stated that the company would remove estimated billing for unmetered customers in its four franchise states of Delta, Edo, Ekiti and Ondo over a period of six months as part of the NNMP.
Benin Electricity Distribution Company Plc has said it was collaborating with the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) on the development of an end-to-end power generation and distribution as part of an effort to boost power supply to customers within its franchise coverage.
BEDC said in a statement issued in Benin that both parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The agreement will see BEDC Electricity Plc partner NDPHC and others to identify and prioritise critical projects to increase power supply while improving on the technical and commercial environment.
The focus of the agreement will be power supply to certain areas as well as upgrading of all critical distribution infrastructure, the statement said.
