Big Rig No Match for Bethlehem Bridge
The driver of a tractor trailer who apparently underestimated the size of his vehicle found out that his rig was no match for an old Bethlehem bridge on Thursday night. As a result, expect the Friday morning commute through this part of Albany County to be compromised.
After slamming into it the bridge, police say it became stuck underneath for hours causing backups, road closures and delays. Judging by the picture released by the Bethlehem Police Department the rig suffered some pretty serious damage.

The Albany County Rail Trail bridge was clearly banged up a bit as well during the incident that took place at approximately 9PM last evening in the area of 1526 New Scotland Road. The vehicle, registered to Massola Trucking of Florida tried to pass underneath the bridge as it traveled westbound according to a report by the Times Union.

The big rig appeared to sustain heavy damage after passing under the bridge with just 11 feet and 2 inches of clearance.
The bridge, near the intersection of New Scotland Road and Kenwood Avenue, supports a section of the Albany County Helderberg-Hudson Rail Trail. Police said the section of road between Kenwood Avenue and Surrey Mall will be closed.

A man with a knife late Wednesday morning robbed a Center City Bethlehem store, city police report.
The man dropped money as he ran from BG Mini Mart just after 11:45 a.m. at 14 W. Broad St., Sgt. Moses Miller said.
The robber is about 6 feet tall, weighs 200 pounds and was wearing a blue hoodie and a light blue mask, Capt. Tim Cooper said.

Connecticut state police rescued a kidnapping victim when they stopped a Pennsylvania man in Trumbull who they said is suspected of a robbery.

Troopers saw the vehicle on Route 15 North, near exit 46, in Trumbull and found a woman who was being held against her will, according to state police.
