An enthusiastic learner, self-proclaimed busy-body and Floyd native, Brook Smith was admitted to Yale University in December 2020. Graduating from Floyd County High School in May, Smith says the coming season of changes is âdaunting,â but sheâs âexcited nonetheless.â
Smith, who finds both virtual and in-person instruction âabsurdly fun,â says she is passionate about social sciences, âespecially on topics applicable to the human condition, how we think of each other and society as a whole,â and she plans to study political science at Yale.
âIâm not sure what will come after that, but the political landscape that most people abhor is my passion, so itâs a good starting point,â Smith said.

Beth joined Hotel Emma as the Vice President of Marketing and the first hire on the development as part of the pre-opening team in 2014. She brings over 30 years of marketing experience working with top independent hotels, restaurants and spas including La Mansion del Rio, Omni Mokara Hotel and launching her own luxury hospitality consulting firm where she advised for Bunkhouse Management Group, Valencia Hotel Group, Horseshoe Bay Resort and the Gage Hotel.

And Beth loved parties.
The woman with a wavy mane of red hair, was social and fun, adventurous and accepting.
âShe brought people together,â said Mary Knight, her longtime friend. âShe was my wing person in a lot of situations.â
The pair met in ninth grade at Lincoln Pius X. After graduation, they were regulars at the Zoo Barâs FAC. They danced together to their favorite bands.
âShe was a social butterfly,â Mary said. âFamily was really important to her. She had nieces and nephews she was really close to.â
