New Pendleton Whisky Music Fest Lineup to Be Announced

Whisky Fest announces 2021 show; musical acts to be announced later

PENDLETON — The Pendleton Whisky Music Fest will be back in 2021, but it will look significantly different than past events. A year after event organizers were forced to cancel the concert due to COVID-19, Whisky Fest announced it would come back on July 10, albeit with new headliners. Facing a 12,000-person capacity limit at the Round-Up Grounds, Whisky Fest is postponing previously announced headliners Macklemore and Eric Church to 2022 and bringing in a new slate of musicians. Whisky Fest will announce its new headliners on Friday, May 28. Macklemore, a rapper, and Church, a country artist, were supposed to perform in 2020 before being moved to the 2021 show. After the co-headliners moved to 2022, Whisky Fest is offering ticket holders the option of transferring their tickets to next year or getting a full refund. Existing ticket holders will also get the option of buying tickets to the 2021 show a day early, on June 3. The rest of the general public can begin buying ticke

County placed in two-week caution for moving back to high risk as local cases see sharp uptick

SALEM — Umatilla County could move back to the high coronavirus risk category as it begins a “two-week caution period” starting Friday, April 23, amid a sharp spike in COVID-19 cases. Umatilla County reported 84 cases over the last two weeks, a total that would qualify it for high risk, bringing increased restrictions on indoor activities and commerce countywide. “It’s very disappointing and very disturbing,” Umatilla County Commissioner George Murdock said of the recent uptick in cases. In a press release on Tuesday, April 20, Gov. Kate Brown announced that 10 counties in Oregon will move to high risk this week after reporting increased rates of infection. And two other counties — Malheur and Grant — would join Umatilla in the “two-week caution period.”

Pendleton Bike Week canceled again

The organizers behind the motorcycle rally made the announcement on the event’s website. “Due to COVID-19 and the mandated restrictions the official word has come down and unfortunately, as most anticipated, Pendleton Bike Week 2021 … and the Summer Chute Out III flat track race have been postponed until (the) third week of July 2022,” the website states. In an interview, bike week owner Stuart Rice said the reasoning behind the decision was simple. “Too many restrictions, not enough freedoms,” he said. Rice said he was among the event organizers that met with Gov. Kate Brown’s office recently, but he said the staffers they spoke to seemed more concerned with another wave of COVID-19 that could hit the state in the coming months. He said some of the concepts that were discussed, like a 50% cap on audiences, wouldn’t be feasible for something like the bike week concert.
