Hampstead gravesite disturbance stirs emotions during meeting with developers

When they sent the bush hog out there, he damaged (the headstone) of Robert Fuller - my great-grandfather, but there was other markers out there as well that have been damaged, moved and destroyed, Garrison said.  During a Thursday meeting at the annex building, he wasn’t the only one in the audience when asked by developers about the Old Woodside Cemetery. The purpose of the gathering hosted by Logan Developers through Pender County officials was to reach an understanding about what happened in the spring and to get new information – but emotions flared between the community members and representatives of Logan Developers, Inc.

Conservatives want to ban critical race theory in schools EDITOR: Banning the teaching of our nation’s history of racism (sometimes known as critical race theory”) represents the worst effort to silence this discussion in our community. Conservatives are literally making it illegal to have the discussion in schools. How can our teachers help students understand slavery and the events of 1898 (the massacre of Black people and the targeted destruction of black power, wealth and property in our city) without discussing white supremacy? How can teachers contextualize the events surrounding the murder of George Floyd without teaching students about bias? I understand why Republicans are afraid of these discussions the conversation threatens their supremacy but it takes some gall to turn around and accuse Democrats of “cancel culture” and trying to ban history.
