This weekend was the Jimmy Starling from the Burnham Sailing Club. 17 Squibs entered and enjoyed six races over two days.
The Jimmy Starling is raced for annually in memory of a young Tucker Brown apprentice shipwright who drowned whilst racing in Burnham Week 1957. As always, the Burnham fleet enjoyed close competitive racing, with the wins being spread out, and every place being hard fought for.
In Race 1, Spoof, owned by Mickey Wright led during the first lap, with Malcolm Hutchings in second, and Dave Hyde in Sophie third. By the second lap, Sophie had taken the lead with Spoof second and Dan Wastnage had come up to third. At the finish, Dan Wastnage in Heartbeat came first, with Surprise, Duncan Grindley second, and Spoof third. This finish was really close between second, third and fourth.

Wow was it really two years since the last Gold Cup? Much has happened since the last event and as boats started to turn up on Friday, it was clear that some had made the most of the time to fettle their boats and get the smoothest finish possible.
However for others, cobwebs were dusted off and discussions as to how exactly to sail the boats were heard. 6 visitors travelled to Burnham and the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club and it was great to see boats such as Squiblet (Abersoch) and Buccaneer (Isle of Wight) making the journey.

.- Dr Gerald Moore was a polymath, who ran a medical empire, a Safari Park and Motor Museum, while also painting, sculpting and writing novels, children s books and poetry. Born in 1926, he spent his life in London, Kent, Sussex and retired to Devon where he died in 2018 at the age of 91. His collection of his own art and sculptures will now be sold at Summers Place Auctions on 18th May 2021 and the remainder of his art collection will have its own timed auction at Bellmans, starting in early May until the 23rd May, with furniture from his estate included in Bellmans regular furniture auction on 26th May 2021. The sales include over 180 works by Gerry Moore and approximately 80 further lots.
