Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC, has pleaded with persons living with disabilities to please vacate their premises.
The firm also stated that it was constrained by the continuous occupation of their facility by the disabled persons, urging the protesters to accept dialogue. It will be recalled that scores of persons living with disabilities within the Niger Delta region had on Wednesday stormed the Port Harcourt office of Shell in protest alleging abandonment.
However, the Media Relations Manager, Bamidele Odugbesan, in a statement in Port Harcourt, said the development was worrisome, urging the protesting individuals to vacate the area.
Nigeria's FirstBank and a unit of energy giant Shell said on Friday members of a community in southern Nigeria had no right to seize assets from a bank branch this week in a dispute over compensation for an oil spill more than five decades ago.

The Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN) yesterday said Tony Elumelu’s acquisition of Shell’s OML 17 was a bold strategic move for the oil and gas industry in the country.
PETAN’s President, Emeka Ene made this remark in a statement he issued yesterday.
He said the bold move to acquire OML 17 “is certainly strategic from the industry perspective.”
According to him, three mega-trends have emerged from the impact of the global pandemic including deglobalisation, capital flight and digitalisation.
He said: “While we in Africa and Nigeria specifically may appear helpless, this scenario presents opportunities to grow from the inside-out.
