WRONGFUL-DEATH LAWSUIT FILED IN PETTIS COUNTY

The father of a 25-year-old woman who was killed by a law-enforcement officer in Pettis County last year has filed a wrongful-death lawsuit. According to WGB&C Attorneys at Law LLC, White, Graham, Buckley & Carr partners, William Carr, Gene Graham and Bryan White have filed a lawsuit against former Pettis County Sheriff’s Deputy Jordan Schutte on behalf of client John Fizer as part of a high-profile wrongful-death case of Hannah Fizer. On June 13, 2020, Schutte shot an unarmed Hannah Fizer five times only minutes into a traffic stop in Sedalia. The lawsuit outlines the encounter and alleges how Schutte’s actions violated Hannah Fizer’s rights and violated Missouri law, including by Schutte using willful excessive force, violating recognized police training procedures and protocols, and causing the death of Hannah Fizer. John Fizer is the appointed personal representative of her estate.

Tuesday evening, Sedalia Police were dispatched to the 600 block of East 27th Street for a domestic disturbance. Officers made contact with both parties. One party alleged that they were pushed, and the other party alleged they were poked, both with no visible injuries. A 12 hour log was completed as a primary aggressor could not be determined.   Sedalia Police observed a vehicle fail to use its turn signal when turning from New York onto Tower Tuesday evening. The Officer initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. Upon contact with the driver, Officers were able to smell the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was searched and marijuana was found. The driver, Melyssa R Fleming, 34, of Sedalia, was issued a City Summons for Possession of Marijuana, which had a total weight of 4 grams. Elected Pettis County Officials Sworn In At Courthouse In attendance were friends and relatives of elected officials, such as that of Sheriff-Elect Brad Anders. “It s a great feeling,” Anders remarked after the brief ceremony. “It s overwhelming,” Anders said when asked about his feelings about the process of becoming sheriff of Pettis County. “The responsibility, the honor of being elected to this position is just overwhelming.” Anders admitted it s time to go to work. “There s a lot of things to do, and we re going to hit it from day one,” he said. Dr. Anders officially takes office at midnight Jan. 1. He replaces longtime Sheriff Kevin Bond, who served 34 years, after defeating him in the November 3 general election.
