LSK worried by increased cases of murder, disappearances

[Courtesy] The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has urged the Government to put in place measures that would protect Kenyans against being victims of kidnappings and murder. The LSK said in a statement on Saturday, April 10 that the recent spike in cases of murder and mysterious disappearances is worrying, and the State should move fast to address the situation. The lobby group’s remarks come on the back of the murder of KBC senior video editor, Betty Barasa, who was shot dead by suspected robbers on Wednesday, April 7 at her home in Ngong.

[Dennish Ochieng, Standard] The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has condemned the killing of Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) video editor Betty Barasa. In a statement on Thursday, MCSK said acts of violence against journalists and media practitioners are unacceptable and a violation of press freedom. “The council condemns the violent act that resulted in her untimely death yesterday [Wednesday night] at her home in Oloolua, Ngong. Accordingly, the council calls for expeditious investigation into the incident, with a view to having the culprits apprehended and prosecuted,” read MCK statement in part.

Kenyan Journalist Shot Dead At Her Home

  A journalist working with Kenya s state broadcaster was shot dead at her home in the outcasts of the capital Nairobi. Two gunmen entered Betty Barasa s home as she was driving in from work on Wednesday evening. They ordered her husband and children to lie on the ground and one of the gunmen took Ms Barasa to her bedroom. The family later heard two gunshots and the gunman walked out of the bedroom and left with the other one. Police in Ngong area say Ms Barasa succumbed to injuries to her head. The motive for her killing remains unclear. The media council has condemned the killing and called for a speedy investigation:
