Arrested for impersonating govt official, Bengaluru man ends life

Bengaluru, Feb 27: A 60-year-old man who was arrested in connection with a case of impersonating a government official allegedly died by suicide in Vidyaranyapura in Bengaluru on Friday, the police said. The case pertained to the impersonation of a government official employed at the Bengaluru Development Authority.
The accused was arrested on February 24; and was facing charges of duping several people by luring them to allot a site in Bengaluru. The court had granted police custody on February 25.
The deceased was identified as Siddalingaswamy, who was a resident of Hanumantha Nagar, according to the police. An investigating officer told IANS that the deceased had led a life of government official for the last several decades; his wife and daughter had believed his facade as well the police noted.

Yediyurappa, who is also in charge of Bengaluru Development portfolio, held the first review of city development works taken up under the recently announced “Mission 2022” and Smart City Project on Saturday and set new deadlines. This assumes significance in the run-up to the State Budget.
Senior officials said projects listed under Mission 2022 will be a blueprint for budgetary allocations in the upcoming State Budget. “I will ensure there will be no shortage of funds for the city’s development,” said Mr. Yediyurappa, who also holds charge of the finance ministry.

Amidst speculation of leadership change, the party high command giving assent to expand the Cabinet was a clear message to dissenters within the party that the Central leadership was not thinking of changing him in the near future. It indicated that high command acknowledged the lack of credible alternatives to him.
