BJP MLA Ramesh Jarkiholi
BENGALURU: In a sudden turnaround of events, activist Dinesh Kallahalli who had last week petitioned the police that water resources minister Ramesh Jarkiholi was allegedly sexually exploiting a woman in return for a government job on Sunday withdrew his complaint.
Kalahalli said he was withdrawing his complaint because he was disappointed with the developments that followed his petition to police.
Handing over a letter to Cubbon Park police through his legal counsel Kumar Patil, Kallahalli said that he was disappointed with the statements of a few politicians and by the state s action treating both the victim and the messenger like criminals.

BENGALURU: What type of mask should one wear if he or she is coughing? Researchers at IISc suggest wearing multilayered masks to prevent aerosol generation as these do not allow escape of droplet volume when the person coughs. The study carried out by IISc in association with scientists from UC San Diego and University of Toronto Engineering has been published in Science Advances.
According to IISc, when a person coughs, large droplets (>200 microns) hit the inner surface of a mask at a high speed, penetrate the mask fabric and break up or atomise into smaller droplets, which have a greater chance of aerosolisation and thereby carry viruses like SARS-CoV2 with them.

Bengaluru has been adjudged the most liveable city among the country’s 49 cities with one-million plus population, in the second and latest edition of the national Ease of Living Index (EoLI) 2020. Bengaluru catapulted from 58th rank in EoLI 2018 to the top, bumping down the former topper, Pune, to second place.
Among 62 cities with less than one million population, Shimla topped the list, followed by Bhubaneswar.
“The Bengaluru model of development of citizen-centric initiatives and delivery of services have ensured the top ranking of Bengaluru,” chief minister BS Yediyurappa’s office tweeted.
The Union housing and urban development ministry launched EoLI 2020 last year in an effort to systematically assess Indian cities themselves against global and national benchmarks. Unlike the first report of 2018, the latest ranking has divided 111 cities into two categories with population of a millionplus and below a million. The report was released on T
The high turnout at hospitals has resulted in a situation where social distancing is not being followed. This is worrying health experts, who fear that asymptomatic carriers of coronavirus in the crowd may spread the infection. “The elderly are waiting for their turn or answers in a hospital environment. This increases their risk of contracting Covid-19,” said an expert, adding that the government should speed up the process.
Technical problems in the Co-Win system are causing delays and complications on the ground. There are growing calls that the government should change its approach by first vaccinating people and then uploading beneficiaries’ data on the system. This approach has been followed in Covid-19 testing. “Overdependence on technology is creating problems. Let senior citizens come to hospitals and take the vaccine by producing the required identity cards and address proof between 9am and 4pm. Hospitals should enter the data in the Co-Win portal after 4pm,” sa
