BENGALURU: In yet another cash seizure at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), a passenger who was attempting to conceal Rs 10 lakh in his hand luggage was intercepted on Wednesday. The income-tax department has been alerted and probe is on to ascertain source of the money.
Sources at KIA said the incident took place around 12.50pm when a passenger, later identified as Bengaluru-based builder Pitchikala Venkateswara Rao, proceeded for security check to board Air India flight AI 0568 to Hyderabad. During baggage scanning, CISF personnel realised there was something amiss about Rao’s bag and pulled it out for physical inspection. In a check carried out in Rao’s presence, they discovered bundles of Rs 2,000 notes totalling Rs 10 lakh hidden inside.
