After several years of political turbulence, Leon Valley voters face another key decision about City Council leadership in the May 1 election.
In 2019, a council majority ousted City Councilor Benny Martinez through a process known as forfeiture. He’d been accused of violating the city charter by undermining the city manager and giving orders to staff members outside the chain of command.

SAN ANTONIO – A man who allegedly was carrying a gun on a San Antonio bus was shot and killed by VIA Transit police officers on Tuesday evening.
VIA Transit Police Chief Mark Witherell said two officers were called about the armed man who was on a bus traveling up San Pedro Avenue near West Olmos.
When they arrived and boarded the bus, Witherell said “something transpired” that led the officers to open fire on the man.
One of the officers has been on the force for roughly nine years, while the other has been with the department for one year, Witherell said.

SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio mother arrested last month in connection with her toddler’s disappearance was indicted by a grand jury on Tuesday, according to the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office.
D’Lanny Reaneille Chairez was charged with tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony. The 20-year-old mother was initially arrested in March on suspicion of abandoning or endangering a child.
