Missing COVID-19 vaccine shipment from state leaves St Joseph County officials scrambling

The St. Joseph County Health Department had to scramble to come up with enough doses to keep its COVID-19 vaccination clinic open this week, after one weekly allotment from the state never arrived Feb. 12 while another was delayed until at least Monday because of weather. Donations from other providers will allow the department’s vaccination clinic at St. Hedwig Memorial Center to stay open today. But it was still unclear Thursday whether more doses would arrive in time to run the clinic again Monday. County officials said the state never sent the local health department a shipment of 2,500 doses of the Moderna vaccine that was supposed to arrive last week, apparently because Indiana hadn’t received its latest allocation from the federal government.

High-risk COVID patients in Michiana are avoiding the hospital Here s how

More than 800 people at high risk for hospitalization have received antibody treatments to fight mild or moderate cases of COVID-19 since a regional infusion center opened in Mishawaka in December. The Northern Indiana COVID Infusion Center, 60202 Bodnar Lane, offers the monoclonal antibody Bamlanivimab, produced by Lilly, and an antibody cocktail produced by Regeneron to patients who are 65 and older, or those with other risk factors such as obesity and diabetes. Lilly chose the St. Joseph Health System site, at Elm and Jackson roads, to set up one of three regional infusion centers across Indiana in an effort to distribute antibody treatments that have received emergency approval from the FDA.
