In twin Earth Day messages, Pope Francis warned a gathering of world leaders and the global community at large that we are at the edge with climate change, and the time to take action is now.
The pope made appearances minutes apart April 22 during two virtual events marking Earth Day: the international leaders summit on climate organized by U.S. President Joe Biden, and the Earth Day Live livestream organized by the Earth Day Network. In both, Francis urged presidents and prime ministers to act courageously in addressing climate change, and to learn from the coronavirus pandemic the need to create a just, equitable, environmentally safe planet
This is the 51st Earth Day.
Earth Day is an annual event on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First held on April 22, 1970, it now includes a wide range of events coordinated globally by earthday.org (formerly Earth Day Network) including 1 billion people in more than 193 countries.

GREENSBURG - How do you plant a small forest? One tree at a time.
GECOM Corporation company officials, employees and guests gathered on company-owned property just south of the local manufacturing facility Thursday morning for a tree planting ceremony designed to coincide with Earth Day.
Several of those gathered were directly involved with planting a rather large Sugar Maple in a roughly 3-acre area designated as the GECOM Forest.
