Library hosting national premier of ‘Black Men in White Coats’
XENIA The Greene County Public Library is hosting the national premier of a new documentary, Black Men in White Coats, with a three-day screening Sunday, Feb. 21 through Tuesday, Feb. 23, followed by a panel discussion on Wednesday, Feb. 24.
Founded in 2013, the Black Men in White Coats organization’s mission is to increase the number of black men in the field of medicine by exposure, inspiration, and mentoring, according to a release from the library. The new documentary chronicles the journey of black men in medicine and, as well, explores the issues facing black boys in pursuing a career in medicine.

February 15, 2021, 12:00 pm David Mitchell Christen Johnson, M.D., M.P.H., created a resident-led health equity leadership concentration at Ohio State’s Family Medicine Residency program that led to statistically significant increases in physician self-efficacy regarding caring for vulnerable populations.
Now Johnson, who spent a year researching for that project and another year implementing it, wants to do more.
“It scratched the surface, and I think the basis of it is helpful,” said Johnson, who was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, and started practice at a federally qualified health center in her hometown after graduating last year. “It had a lot of the pieces of the puzzle necessary to inspire trainees to think deeply about health equity, but it was directed specifically at the residency program.”

FAIRBORN If you mention the name Gary LeRoy, M.D., around the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine, nearly everyone knows the person who is a leader and mentor with the school and a physician and volunteer within the community. What they may not know is that LeRoy is also an author.
“Quotes from the Edge of Nowhere: The Art of Noticing Unnoticed Wisdom,” is the title of LeRoy’s first book. It was released in late January by Dorrance Publishing Company, Inc.
The book is about a 20-to-40-year life journey. It recounts randomly selected personal quotes, saved in a cookie jar, to create a life-learning narrative using the origin of each quote.
