Oregon Humane Society Accepts 250 Guinea Pigs | Z100 Portland

Dec 17, 2020 Working in partnership with Greenhill Humane Society and Lane County Animal Services, a team from the Oregon Humane Society assisted an overwhelmed pet owner in Lane County today. More than 250 guinea pigs were living at the residence and have been transported to OHS in Portland where they will receive care and any necessary medical treatment. The Cat and Kitten Intake Center at OHS has been transformed to accommodate the guinea pigs and their specific needs. Staff and volunteers will be caring for the animals until they are ready for adoption. “A crisis of this size called for collaboration. We are pleased to be working with our Lane County partner and Oregon Humane Society to help the guinea pigs and the people impacted by this situation,” says Cary Lieberman, Greenhill Humane Society Executive Director.

More than 250 guinea pigs from Lane County taken to the Oregon Humane Society KATU Staff © Provided by KATU Portland More than 250 guinea pigs that were living in a Lane County pet owner s home have been taken to the Oregon Humane Society, where they will receive care and necessary medical treatment.  According to the humane society, the Cat and Kitten Intake Center has been transformed to accommodate the guinea pigs and their specific needs.  Staff and volunteers will be caring for the animals until they are ready for adoption, according to OHS. The Humane Society has not determined a timeline when the guinea pigs will be up for adoption. Officials said there will be a special process for adopting a guinea pig and OHS small animal specialists will work with potential adopters to ensure a good fit.
