She grew up as pop royalty, embodied mid-’60s glamour, romanced Elvis onscreen, and entered the history books with “These Boots Are Made for Walking.” All things considered, Nancy Sinatra’s career was one for the ages.
This month brings a new retrospective, “Start Walkin,’” of the mid-’60s sides she recorded with maverick singer/producer Lee Hazlewood (on the collectors’ label Light in the Attic), originally for her father Frank Sinatra’s label Reprise. The title of course comes from her oft-covered 1965 hit “These Boots Are Made for Walking,” one of pop’s strongest and sexiest feminist anthems.
