In an uptick that tourism officials are touting as a turning point in the fight to rebound from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, bed-tax collections in Volusia County jumped 70% year-over-year in March compared with the same month a year ago.
“It’s people finally saying, ‘We’ve got to get out,’” said Bob Davis, president and CEO of the Lodging & Hospitality Association of Volusia County. “April will be the same,” Davis predicted.
In an uptick that tourism officials are touting as a turning point in the fight to rebound from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, bed-tax collections in Volusia County jumped 70% year-over-year in March compared with the same month a year ago.
“It’s people finally saying, ‘We’ve got to get out,’” said Bob Davis, president and CEO of the Lodging & Hospitality Association of Volusia County. “April will be the same,” Davis predicted.
The March collection figure is the largest increase for that month for at least the past 10 years, said Michael Jones, operations manager for the Volusia County’s Treasury and Billing department.
