THE University of Glasgow, I feel, risks being seen as mean-spirited in cancelling graduation ceremonies this year for students (as it announced on March 2) and, even now, claiming the pandemic as an excuse for continuing to let the cancellation extend throughout the summer. Rules surrounding restricted activities have been changing month by month and it should not be beyond the wit of experienced academics to restructure graduations to fit. Scotland will be out of lockdown by the summer months and the university has oven-ready annual graduation plans that could easily adapt. Students and their families would certainly race to modify plans to attend.

Some expressed concerns that the system already in place is not enough for larger families and those with small children.
Lee Bell wrote: “We cannot recycle anymore than we do, with a family of five I am already taking bin bags in my car to dispose of because our bins are full after one week, this is crazy now!!!”
A number of people posted that they believe this new system will not encourage recycling, explaining that they already do their best to recycle what they can yet their bins are still full.
However, some have written that they believe it will help promote recycling.
By Iain Gulland THE most appetising and effective way for everyone in Scotland to save the planet and help overcome the impact of Covid-19 is this: stop wasting food. We must eat to survive, but we also must start taking seriously the fact that binning food is destroying the planet, our only home. The single biggest cause of the climate crisis in Scotland is our ever-accelerating consumerism culture. It’s not widely known that carbon emissions are not only caused by cars and airplanes, but more so the wasteful way we produce, use and discard products and materials. Many people are rightly taking stock of the single-use materials they use, like plastic packaging. We should also be tackling food waste because it is a bigger contributor to climate change than plastic.
