Dry April in Branch County, moderate drought conditions continue

By Jim Measel Apr 30, 2021 10:55 AM BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The past month did not bring April showers to Branch County. As April comes to a close, the Michigan State University Extension Service weather station at the Bloom Dairy Farm recorded just over one-and-a-half inches of rain for the month. It measured just under two inches of rain for all of March. The weather has dry throughout Michigan recently, apart from some rain showers this week. But there has not been enough precipitation to ease dry conditions across the state. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, nearly all of the Lower Peninsula is currently in a Moderate Drought. It comes after a winter season that was drier than normal and those dry conditions have continued for much of the spring season so far.

NWS says much needed rain in the forecast through Thursday

Coldwater, MI, USA / WTVB | 1590 AM · 95.5 FM | The Voice of Branch County Mar 17, 2021 7:38 AM BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The National Weather Service says some much needed rain is expected to move into the area over the next couple of days. That is welcomed news for weary Branch County firefighters who have been battling a large amount of grass and field fires in recent weeks. The grass fires started earlier than normal this month thanks to a lack of snow this winter, unseasonably warm temperatures and very dry weather. There has been no measurable rainfall at the M.S.U. Extension Service weather station at the Bloom Dairy Farm since February 27.
