A CAMPAIGNING mum has raised over £10,000 for her effort to make Inverclyde a more autism-friendly area. Mother-of-three Laura Graham, who started her charity Kerr s Journey for her son, has joined forces with her friends at Branchton Community Centre to transform a room there into a quiet haven for when lockdown restrictions lift. She has plans for music therapy sessions as well as more resources in other community hubs. Laura, who has helped other parents ever since Kerr was diagnosed with autism at the age of three, said: I can t believe how generous people have been with donations and their time.

A community-minded musician has been recognised nationally for her efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic. Lynette Beaton was recognised by the Scottish Women s Convention as part of their International Women s Day celebrations. The singer and Boogie Bugs founder was nominated for the accolade by local Amazon community champion, Gillian Maxwell, after she raised over £10,000 for the community with her singing partner, Lauren O Donoghue. Lynette, who was really chuffed to be recognised, has thanked Gillian for thinking on her. The 30-year-old said: I worked with Gillian throughout the lockdown as Amazon were helping us with our fundraising efforts, so I got to know her really well.
LITTLE ones will have to wait to get the chance to boogie and sing-a-long in the same room - but they bowed out in style before the latest lockdown came into effect. Musician Lynette Beaton was belting out all the old favourites on her guitar at her popular Boogie Bugs parties. They were held at Dazzles Dance Studio before the latest restrictions were announced and all the action had to move online once again. Lynette s jamming sessions for tiny tots have really taken off over the last year, with around 200 signed up to them. She said: We have a great time and I can t thank Dazzles Dance Studio enough for all their support to get our classes back on.
