Spring has sprung in Dollywood. For yet another year, Dolly Parton s namesake theme park is hosting the Flower & Food Festival (is there a better combo?!). With more than half-a-million blooming flowers and unparalleled dining experiences (think: Korean-style beef bulgogi nachos and Fresh Berry and Lavender Funnel Cake), the festival, located in the Smoky Mountain area of Tennessee, is an event not to be missed. The Smokies really were the inspiration for this festival, Parton says in a press release. “When I was a little girl, I loved springtime because everything seemed so bright with color,” she explains. “It started to get warm outside and you just felt like you could finally get out of the house after being cooped up in there for so long, which is something I know we’re all feeling right now. “We actually start working on the festival a good six months in advance, and things are still too unpredictable to go forward this year,” said Terry Ball, executive director of Center Stage Theater. “The festival is very expensive to put on, and with no assurance that we will be able to have a large event or what the parameters would be, we just can’t risk it.”

In the early days of the pandemic islands were held up as the ultimate source of shelter; places to batten down the hatches, shut the borders and bask in splendid isolation.
Now, as the resumption of international travel nears, the same destinations are using their geographical context as a tool to woo back holidaymakers.
Greece showed its hand first, with plans to vaccinate fully its 69 islands in the Aegean by the end of April, in the hope that it might attract tourists while also keeping the local population safe.
